New $10,000 reward aims to solve 2022 Lake Mead body-in-a-barrel murder

Four years after a body was discovered inside a barrel at Lake Mead, the murder remains unsolved. Two retired law enforcement officers, Daniel Minor and David Kohlmeier, are now offering a $10,000 reward in hopes of generating new leads.

The victim was identified as Edward "Buddy" Jackson, originally from Arkansas, who died from a gunshot wound to the head. Police believe he was killed in the 1980s based on personal items found in the barrel, including clothing and shoes sold at Kmart stores in the mid-to-late 1970s.

"DNA testing came back great; now we're one step closer. We identified who the person was; we could go back to his hometown or maybe on his journey to Las Vegas and where he went," Kohlmeier said. The reward is funded by The Problem Solver Podcast.

Kohlmeier suggested Jackson's criminal history may have played a role in his death, theorizing he was involved with the wrong person at the wrong time. Minor, however, believes the logistics of disposing of the body suggest more than one person was involved. "I don't see one person throwing somebody in a barrel, putting him in a boat, taking him out at Lake Mead; I just don't see that happening," Minor said.

Investigators are hoping someone who has never spoken to police may recall a conversation or detail that could break the case. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-833-tipscash.
