Clark County commissioners have voted to approve a contract for construction of a supplemental animal shelter in the Spring Valley area. The facility will be built on a parcel of more than 20 acres near Jones Boulevard and Post Road, with the shelter itself occupying approximately nine acres.
The 37,000-square-foot center is designed to hold an estimated 172 to 192 animals, including dogs, cats, small mammals and reptiles. County officials say the new location will help meet growing community demands related to animal welfare.
“This will help us meet the needs of our growing population and strengthen our Animal Control Officers’ ability to respond to calls for service, support residents, and keep animals close to home,” Commissioner Michael Naft said in September.
The shelter is projected to open in 2028. Once completed, the county plans to solicit a provider to oversee daily operations of the facility.
