Nevada Donor Network celebrates grand opening of new donor care unit

The Nevada Donor Network held a ribbon-cutting Tuesday for its new donor care unit, the first facility of its kind in the state. The 6,300-square-foot space provides a dedicated area for organ and tissue recovery, which the organization says will help streamline donor care, preserve hospital resources and support better outcomes for transplant patients.

Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley, who previously served on the Nevada Donor Network board, said the facility represents years of work to keep patients from having to leave Nevada for transplants. "Before I became mayor, I sat on the Nevada Donor Network board. So I'm very, very familiar with what they do. And we've been working so hard to develop and create a facility in town so Las Vegans, all of Nevadans, don't have to leave the state in order to have a transplant. So this is a very exciting day for our community," Berkley said.

The Nevada Donor Network is encouraging Nevadans to register as organ and tissue donors.
