The Inyo County coroner's office has identified the climber who died on Mount Whitney as Winston Chu, 49, of Santa Clara, California, according to the Inyo County Sheriff's Office.

Police said Chu's cause of death was multiple traumatic injuries due to a fall.

A search and rescue team was deployed Sunday to recover Chu's body after his remains were discovered on Oct. 18, the sheriff's office said in a previous news release.

A storm system moved into the area, creating hazardous weather conditions that delayed recovery efforts, the release said.
