A federal grand jury indicted former Henderson Police Department detective Mitchell Wilson on four charges, including encouraging illegal entry, bringing a person into the U.S. outside a designated port, transportation, and harboring, the U.S. attorney's office announced Friday.
The indictment, returned Oct. 21, alleges Wilson encouraged a person to illegally enter and reside in the country between October 2023 and Dec. 30, 2024. Prosecutors say Wilson transported the individual into the United States on Dec. 30, 2024, and subsequently hid the person from law enforcement in buildings and other locations.
Homeland Security Investigations and the Henderson Police Department investigated the case. Jonathan Sherwin, deputy special agent in charge for HSI Las Vegas, said individuals who facilitate unlawful entry and conceal others from law enforcement undermine the integrity of the immigration system.
The Henderson Police Department confirmed Wilson was placed on administrative leave on May 24, 2025, and retired on July 11, 2025, while an internal affairs investigation was ongoing. A trial date has been set for Jan. 4, 2027, according to court records. Wilson's attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
