The Raiders (3-4) snapped a four-game skid with a 38-33 victory over the New York Jets (2-5) at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. Quarterback Kirk Cousins threw four touchdown passes, including a 12-yard strike to tight end Brock Bowers on the opening drive, to tie the league lead with 17 scoring throws this season.
New York quarterback Geno Smith, facing his former team, threw for two first-half touchdowns as the Jets built a 20-10 lead. Smith connected with Adonai Mitchell on a fourth-down play and later hit Isaiah Williams for an 18-yard score. The Raiders answered when Dylan Laube returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown, his first NFL score, in front of his hometown crowd near Westhampton, New York.
The Raiders took the lead for good in the second half behind Cousins' efficiency. Running back Mike Washington Jr. earned the start over Ashton Jeanty, who was split out wide on the first play, and the offensive line featured Trey Zuhn III at right guard. The Raiders' defense stiffened after allowing 20 first-half points, forcing a key third-down stop in the red zone that led to a Jason Sanders field goal.
Defensive back Darien Porter left the game on the first play with an apparent groin injury. Wide receiver Dont'e Thornton Jr. was a healthy scratch for the Raiders despite being activated to the 53-man roster for the first time this season. The win marked the seventh time in eight games Las Vegas won the coin toss and deferred.
