Mesquite ‘fantasy course’ unveils multimillion-dollar renovation project

Wolf Creek Golf Club in Mesquite has unveiled a multimillion-dollar renovation project that modernizes its 26-year-old clubhouse, pro shop, and the Terrace at Wolf Creek restaurant. The three-month project, completed in early October, was led by Reno-based general contractor BLC Builders and architecture and interior design firm OneStudio D+A.

The course opened in 2000 and gained fame after being featured in EA Sports' Tiger Woods PGA Tour video game series. Former EA Sports product manager Praveeta Singh said gamers often thought the visually striking layout was a fictional fantasy course. "The coolest part is that Wolf Creek is a fantasy course that actually exists," Singh said.

Managing partner and co-owner Cory Clemetson described the layout as "like playing 18 signature holes" with extreme elevation changes up to 11 stories high carved into red rock canyons. "I've always said to people that if you could imagine a golf course in the middle of the Grand Canyon, that would be Wolf Creek Golf Club," Clemetson said.

Clemetson, who bought the property out of bankruptcy in 2003, said the upgrades were necessary to match the quality of the golf experience. "We've expanded our golf shop, we've modernized our dining room area and our bar is really first class. We have a wine display now and all sorts of high-end finishes," he said.

Mesquite resident Brad Ballif, 70, who plays the course several times a year and visits the restaurant weekly, praised the expanded space and improved decor. "The food is awesome, the chef is remarkable and now they're open Friday and Saturday nights. We like the prices, we like the waitresses," Ballif said. The restaurant is open daily for breakfast and lunch, with dinner service Friday and Saturday nights from October through June.
