Georgia and Indiana reclaimed spots as top-four seeds in the latest College Football Playoff projection based on The Associated Press Top 25 released Sunday, earning first-round byes in the 12-team format. The Bulldogs sit at No. 3 and the Hoosiers at No. 4, joining No. 1 Miami and No. 2 Ohio State as the only teams receiving byes.
Both teams had previously held top-four positions before losing last week. They returned after Notre Dame slipped one spot to No. 5 and BYU dropped six places to No. 8 following a loss to UCF. Miami was the only team to hold its position in the poll, while idle Ohio State moved up to No. 2.
Based on the current AP rankings, Notre Dame, BYU, and UCLA would host first-round games on Dec. 18 and 19. Projected matchups include No. 12 seed Boise State at No. 5 Notre Dame, with the winner facing Indiana, and No. 10 Alabama at No. 7 UCLA, with the winner advancing to play Ohio State.
The Southeastern Conference would place four teams in the bracket, followed by the Big Ten with three, the Big 12 with two, and the Atlantic Coast Conference and Pac-12 with one each. Notre Dame would qualify as an independent, while Boise State would represent the Pac-12 as the highest-ranked Group of Six champion.
The first three teams outside the projected bracket are Mississippi, Texas Tech, and Wake Forest. The Rebels are ranked No. 12 by the AP but would be displaced by Boise State as the top Group of Six champion. The CFP selection committee will release its initial rankings on Nov. 3, with the national championship scheduled for Jan. 25 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
