Voting is now open for the Nevada Preps girls Athlete of the Week, recognizing top performances from the week of Oct. 5-10. The poll includes four athletes who delivered standout results in volleyball, soccer, cross country, and tennis. Voting closes at noon Thursday, with results scheduled to be announced Friday.
The nominees include a senior volleyball setter who recorded 20 assists, 12 digs, and four kills in a four-set victory over Coral Academy on Tuesday, bringing her season total to 163 assists. Also nominated is a senior soccer forward who scored six goals Wednesday to lead her team to a 12-0 win over Basic, pushing her season total to 39 goals.
A freshman cross country runner claimed first place in the large-school varsity division at the Lake Mead Invitational, completing the 5-kilometer course at Veterans Memorial Park in exactly 19 minutes. Her performance helped her team edge Shadow Ridge for the team championship.
Rounding out the nominees is a freshman tennis player who rallied with five straight points in a tiebreaker to secure a 10-9 victory over Coronado, giving her team its first state team title since 2014. The win came after she lost her first-round match 6-0, marking a significant rebound.
