Mater East’s football team has been forced to forfeit its win over Sloan Canyon from last month due to an administrative oversight, the school confirmed. The forfeit resulted from a student-athlete who had been cleared for participation being inadvertently omitted from the official game day roster.
Mater East athletic administrator Shawn Dickson said in an email that the error was an administrative oversight on the school’s part, stating: “A student-athlete who had been cleared for participation was inadvertently omitted from the official game roster. Although the student-athlete had been cleared, the failure to ensure that the athlete was properly listed on the official roster was an administrative oversight on our part.”
The school added that it has worked with the NIAA regarding the matter. Mater East had originally defeated Sloan Canyon 27-19 on Sept. 17 at Sloan Canyon in a matchup of two top Class 4A Southern Region football teams.
As a result of the forfeit, Mater East’s record on the NIAA standings page shows 5-2 with the Sloan Canyon game now counted as a loss. Sloan Canyon is now 6-1 and 3-0 in 4A Southern League play, positioning them as the No. 1 seed in the 4A Southern Region playoffs and set to host a potential rematch in the region title game on Nov. 13 for a spot in the 4A state title game.
