Blue Heron is proposing to develop a 61-lot housing tract on nearly 12.9 acres at the southeast corner of Alta and Campbell drives in Las Vegas. The project has drawn concern from longtime residents who value the area's mid-century character and distinct feel.

Bonnie Barberini, who has lived in her mid-century home for about 30 years, said the neighborhood is a treasure and warned that the builder 'will have a fight on their hands to the end.' Caleb Sheldon, who lives across from the site, said every house in the neighborhood is different and likened the proposal to 'a suburban subdivision plopped inside.'

City staff determined the project is not compatible or harmonious with the surrounding area and recommended denying it, calling it an attempt to overdevelop the site despite acknowledging it would bring much-needed housing stock. The Las Vegas Planning Commission was scheduled to consider the proposal on Tuesday, but the applicant requested to hold the item, and it may be moved to the commission's next meeting on November 10.
