Vegas Loop Paradise extension still set to open for Grand Prix

The Boring Company's longest Vegas Loop extension to date remains on schedule to open before the Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend, set for Nov. 19-21. The twin-tunnel University Center Loop spans two miles under Paradise Road between Westgate Las Vegas and a Boring Company site at 4744 Paradise Road near UNLV.

Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority President Steve Hill said the company decided to open both tunnels simultaneously rather than staggering them. "Which makes sense," Hill told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "Opening one at a time, you've got one that's going to take you south, and you're going to have to be on the road coming back."

The extension adds three stations at 4744 Paradise Road, Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, and the former Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant site just north of Flamingo Road. Both the Virgin and Gordon Biersch stations are positioned to serve racegoers, with the main grandstand entrance near Virgin and the T-Mobile fanzone near Gordon Biersch.

Half of the 4744 Paradise site has been paved and striped for operations, allowing vehicles to enter and exit from both Paradise Road and University Center Drive. Hill said the permitting and inspection process for the five-mile tunnel system and stations is underway, adding, "We feel really confident it'll be open before the race."

The Paradise stretch represents the most significant Loop expansion yet. Boring machines are already digging toward a planned station at 5022 Palo Verde Road, which will eventually provide a direct underground link to Harry Reid International Airport, eliminating surface-street travel from the 4744 Paradise station.
