Southern Nevada will see periods of storm clouds and gusty winds Wednesday as a strong storm system moves toward Southern California, with the best chance for rain arriving Thursday. As of early Wednesday, the only weather alerts in effect are Flash Flood Watches for southwestern Utah and northern Mohave County in Arizona.
Las Vegas is expected to see plenty of clouds during the day Wednesday but little to no rainfall accumulation. Rain chances increase Wednesday night and peak Thursday as the system moves through the region. Current projections call for around a quarter of an inch of rain in the Las Vegas Valley, though totals could shift depending on the storm's final track. Areas east and west of the valley could see higher amounts and thunderstorms.
Southwest winds will gust up to 35 mph Wednesday, ushering in cooler air. High temperatures will drop from around 80 degrees Wednesday to the low 70s Thursday and remain in the low 70s through next week. Overnight lows will also cool, falling from the mid-60s Wednesday night to the mid-50s later in the week. The normal high and low for this time of year are 79 and 58 degrees.
