Road fatalities in Clark County down nearly 20 percent compared to last year

Road fatalities in Clark County are down nearly 20 percent compared to the same period in 2025, with 149 deaths reported through September 30, 2026, down from 186 during the same timeframe last year. The Nevada Office of Traffic Safety released the statewide fatal report for September on Friday, Oct. 9, showing that while September 2026 saw an 11 percent increase in deaths compared to September 2025, the year-to-date trend across Nevada remains positive.

Statewide, 261 people have died in 244 crashes on Nevada roadways through September 30, 2026, representing a nine percent decrease from the same period in 2025. In Clark County specifically, the data shows 54 pedestrians, 43 motorcyclists, and 20 unrestrained passengers or drivers have died so far this year. The Zero Fatalities Nevada program continues to urge drivers and pedestrians to stay alert and make responsible choices.

The Nevada Office of Traffic Safety emphasized that drivers should stay focused, obey speed limits, never drive impaired, avoid distractions, and yield to pedestrians. Pedestrians are advised to use designated crosswalks, follow pedestrian signals, stay alert, and avoid distractions while crossing. The agency noted that 2026 data is preliminary and full figures will not be finalized until early 2028.

The Zero Fatalities Program remains committed to eliminating roadway fatalities in Nevada, aiming for zero because everyone matters. The initiative targets key behaviors such as buckling up, pedestrian and motorcycle safety, eliminating impaired driving, focusing on the road, and stopping on red.
