Patrick Dumont and his wife, Sivan Ochshorn, have purchased Miriam Adelson's shares in the Dallas Mavericks, making the Dumont family the controlling owners of the franchise with a 69% stake, a spokesman confirmed Tuesday. The sale occurred last month. Adelson originally purchased the team with her daughter Ochshorn and son-in-law Dumont from Mark Cuban in December 2023, but has had minimal day-to-day involvement since then. Dumont has served as team governor with final say over major decisions and has represented the franchise at NBA Board of Governors meetings.
Since the 2023 sale, the Mavericks have undergone a complete overhaul of their roster and front office. Dumont appointed Rick Welts as CEO following Cynt Marshall's retirement in 2024, and with Dumont's permission the team traded star player Luka Doncic in February 2025. The ensuing public relations crisis led to the dismissal of former general manager Nico Harrison. Dumont has since hired Ethan Casson as president, who will succeed Welts as CEO at the start of the calendar year, along with eight of the franchise's top 11 business-side senior managers. He also hired Masai Ujiri as team president and alternate governor to oversee construction of a roster built around former No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg.
Cuban maintains a 27% share of the team, while Mary Stanton, the widow of an original shareholder, owns 4%. Cuban has stated he regrets selling the Mavericks to Adelson and Dumont. The terms of the sale allow Dumont the possibility of purchasing another 20% from Cuban at the original $3.5 billion valuation. Dumont, 52, is CEO of Las Vegas Sands Corp. and chairman of its subsidiary Sands China Ltd., and was a primary reason the Mavericks participated in the NBA China Games in Macao last month.
With full control secured, Dumont will proceed with plans for a new basketball-only arena and entertainment district at the former Valley View Mall site, targeting a 2031 opening when the team's lease at American Airlines Center expires. "We are deeply committed to building a championship team, supporting our fans and growing the organization's impact in the local community through our investments in the city of Dallas," the Dumont family said in a prepared statement. "We are very happy with our family ownership and could not be more excited about the future of the Mavericks."
