The Las Vegas Raiders put up a solid effort in a 33-30 loss to the Buffalo Bills at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday. Kirk Cousins led six scoring drives with 313 yards and two touchdowns, while Tre Tucker had a breakout game with 97 yards and two scores. Tight ends Michael Mayer and Brock Bowers both performed well, with Mayer recording a career-high 95 yards on seven catches.
The defense held its own for much of the game, limiting Josh Allen’s rushing impact and holding Buffalo to 4 for 10 on third downs. However, the Raiders failed to force a turnover and struggled on special teams early, allowing a 40-yard kickoff return that led to a Bills field goal. Coverage improved after that, but a holding penalty on the kickoff return after Buffalo took a 30-23 lead set up bad field position, followed by a facemask penalty on the ensuing punt return.
Matt Gay was reliable on kicks and AJ Cole punted well, but the special teams mistakes proved costly. The Raiders also had 12 men on the field on defense in a key first-half situation, burning a timeout, and their short-yardage push play resulted in another penalty. A late third-quarter challenge on an incomplete pass was upheld and wasted a timeout that could have been used later. Despite the loss, the team showed resilience after a poor performance the previous week.
The Raiders fell to 0-3 on the season, but the effort was viewed as a step forward compared to the prior week’s defeat. Bills fans filled much of Allegiant Stadium in blue and red, creating a loud environment for the home team.
