Eldorado High School freshman Kimberly Dominguez has been named the Nevada Preps Girls Athlete of the Week for the period of Oct. 12-17. The striker earned the honor after a standout performance on Monday in which she recorded four goals and an assist to lead the Firehawks to an 11-0 victory over Rancho.
Dominguez leads the Eldorado squad with 40 goals on the season. She won the weekly fan vote, which closed at noon Thursday, defeating three other nominees who posted notable performances during the same week.
The other candidates included a freshman tennis player who won the state singles title after her opponent, Coronado's Erika Gallegos, retired late in the second set with an injury. A junior golfer captured the individual state title with a two-day score of 3-under 141, helping her team upset Coronado for the team championship.
A sophomore volleyball player from Cadence was also nominated after tallying 24 kills, four digs, and two aces in a five-set win over Rancho. She leads the Cougars with 392 kills this season.
In the boys' poll, Del Sol football player Arthur Gonzales was selected as the Nevada Preps Athlete of the Week.
