Spring Valley senior Owen Carlson has been named the Nevada Preps Boys Athlete of the Week for the period of Oct. 19-24. Carlson, a Sacramento State commit, earned the honor after a standout performance at the Faith Lutheran Harvest Fest Invitational on Saturday.
Carlson completed the 5-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 29 seconds, finishing first among local runners and second overall. His effort helped the Grizzlies secure a fourth-place finish in the team standings.
Carlson received 149 votes, accounting for 63.7% of the total in the weekly poll conducted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Voting closed at noon Thursday, with results reported Friday.
The other nominees included a senior who rushed for three touchdowns, returned kicks, and intercepted a pass in a Superintendent's Cup championship game; a senior midfielder who scored three goals in a soccer victory; and a freshman quarterback who threw five touchdown passes in a ninth-place playoff game.
