The Golden Knights dropped their fourth game in five outings with a 5-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils at T-Mobile Arena on Friday. New Devils goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, acquired in a blockbuster trade with Winnipeg on Oct. 23, made 19 saves in his second start for New Jersey. Adin Hill stopped 23 shots for Vegas in his second consecutive start.
The Devils' top line carried the offense as center Jack Hughes and left wing Arseny Gritsyuk each scored twice and finished a plus-4. Hughes broke a 2-2 tie at 3:49 of the second period with a highlight-reel goal, maneuvering the puck between Mark Stone's legs before snapping a shot past Hill. Gritsyuk scored late in the first period and again with 1:44 remaining in the second, converting a backhand on his own rebound.
Vegas held a 2-1 lead late in the first period after Stone scored a power-play goal with 3:33 remaining and Ivan Barbashev finished a passing play 90 seconds later. New Jersey opened the scoring at 5:38 of the first when defenseman Luke Hughes capitalized on a turnover by Knights defenseman Ville Heinola in the defensive zone.
The loss drops the Knights to 9-5-1 on the season, while the Devils improve to 9-5-0. Brayden McNabb recorded an assist in his 900th NHL game for Vegas.
