Hiker's body recovered after 'unsurvivable fall' at Eastern Sierra's Mt. Morgan

Brian Siebert, a 53-year-old man described by the Mono County Sheriff's Office as a 'peak bagger,' reached the summit of Mt. Morgan on Sunday. The mountain, located about 60 miles west of Boundary Peak in the Eastern Sierras, stands at 13,754 feet and is the 31st highest peak in California.

After failing to return as expected, search teams began tracking his boot prints during a three-day search. His body was discovered Tuesday when a helicopter team identified an anomaly near the bottom of Grand Central Couloir, a prominent east-facing gully off the summit. Team 3 followed a single set of tracks descending the couloir to the location.

Siebert's body was recovered early Wednesday morning by a Yosemite National Park helicopter and crew from Friends of Yosemite Search and Rescue. The Mono County Sheriff's Office characterized the incident as an 'unsurvivable fall' from a cliff during his descent.
