Las Vegas handicapper Bruce Marshall of WagerTalk.com has identified several betting edges for this weekend's college football slate based on team trends. Marshall, who provides notes to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, highlights Miami, BYU, and UCLA as teams with favorable recent patterns against the spread.
The Hurricanes have covered nine of their last 11 games dating back to late last season, giving them the edge over Pittsburgh. BYU has won and covered against UCF the past two seasons and is on a 13-2 run against the spread since early 2025, while the Knights have gone 2-8 against the spread since late 2025. UCLA enters 6-0 straight up and 5-1 against the spread this season, facing a Michigan State team that has lost five straight outright and is 3-4 against the spread.
Other notable trends include Stanford over NC State, as the Cardinal have covered five of their last seven against ACC opponents at home while the Wolfpack are 0-6 against the spread in their last six road games. Texas Tech gets the nod over Cincinnati after covering handily in their last two games following an 0-3-1 start, while the Bearcats are 1-6 in their last seven as underdogs.
Auburn is favored over LSU based on trends showing the Tigers are 1-6 against the spread in their last seven road games, while Alex Golesh-coached teams are 13-6 as underdogs since early 2023. Michigan holds a slight edge over Indiana along with a lean to the under, as the Hoosiers have covered just once in seven tries this season after a 19-10 mark the previous two years, and the Wolverines are 5-1 to the under this season.
SMU gets a slight lean over California as the Mustangs are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games as an ACC host, while Northwestern gets a slight lean over Rutgers at the new Ryan Field, where the Wildcats are 7-1 against the spread in their last eight home games.
