Jennifer Courtemanche and Brittany Burgess were sentenced Tuesday in District Court after pleading guilty in June to a gross misdemeanor count of conspiracy to commit theft. Judge Bita Yeager sentenced Courtemanche to one year of probation and ordered both women to maintain full-time employment to pay restitution, with a compliance review set for November.
Prosecutors said nearly half a million dollars was stolen from Maloof's personal bank account through unauthorized transactions between December 2020 and April 2023. Maloof, whose family formerly owned the Sacramento Kings and co-founded the Vegas Golden Knights, told the court the theft involved "deception, manipulation, emotional abuse, harassment, and the intentional abuse of trust over an period of time."
"This, the impact has affected every aspect of my life, and the consequences continued long after the theft itself," Maloof said in a statement read to the judge. He added that text messages between the defendants showed Courtemanche viewed him "not as someone she cared about, but someone she intended to exploit for financial gain."
Under their plea agreements, Courtemanche agreed to pay approximately $445,000 in restitution while Burgess agreed to pay nearly $12,000. If they make full restitution, their cases could be dismissed. Both women declined to address the court during sentencing.
