Texas Tech signs Gorman product to 5th basketball seasons

Texas Tech announced on Friday the addition of Bishop Gorman product Darrion Williams and UCF transfer Jamichael Stillwell to its men’s basketball roster. Williams, a 6‑foot‑6 guard who previously played for the Red Raiders from 2023 to 2025, will return to Lubbock after leading North Carolina State in scoring last season with 14.0 points per game, along with 4.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists. Stillwell, listed at 6‑8 and a forward, joins Texas Tech from UCF where he averaged 11.6 points and 8.1 rebounds during the most recent campaign. Both players are members of the high school class of 2022 and have become eligible for a fifth year of competition following a preliminary injunction issued last week by a U.S. District Court judge in Colorado. The ruling states that any athlete from that class who exhausted their fourth year of collegiate eligibility this spring may compete for an additional season this academic year. The NCAA is expected to appeal the injunction, which stems from a lawsuit filed by a group of current players seeking inclusion under the association’s newly approved “five for five” eligibility rule adopted in June. During his two seasons at Texas Tech, Williams posted averages of 13.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per contest. Over his four‑year college career he has appeared in 133 games, starting 130 of them. Before his stint with the Red Raiders, Williams spent his freshman year at Nevada. Stillwell’s collegiate path includes two junior college seasons, a 2024‑25 campaign at Milwaukee where he averaged 13.0 points and 10.7 rebounds, and his most recent year at UCF, which yielded 11.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. His addition provides Texas Tech with a veteran frontcourt option alongside Williams’ returning guard play.
