Raiders WR a healthy scratch, won’t make season debut vs. Jets

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Dont'e Thornton Jr. will not make his season debut Sunday against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. Thornton was listed as inactive despite being healthy and returning to the 53-man roster Tuesday after a knee injury sidelined him during training camp.

Coach Klint Kubiak explained Wednesday that Thornton must earn his spot. "He's got to take the spot of another guy, so he's got to go beat out somebody," Kubiak said when asked what Thornton needed to show after exhausting his 21-day practice window.

Wide receiver Jack Bech returns after missing four games with a broken forearm. The second-round pick has five catches for 48 yards and a touchdown this season. Offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson is active after practicing Friday on a limited basis following a back injury that kept him out Thursday.

Also inactive for the Raiders are wide receiver Malik Benson, safeties Tristin McCollum and Dalton Johnson, guard Bryce Cabeldue and defensive tackle JJ Pegues. Defensive end Cian Slone will make his NFL debut after being elevated from the practice squad the previous two weeks only to be inactive on gameday. Defensive tackle Tim Keenan III is also active after a second consecutive elevation.

The Jets will again be without running back Breece Hall, who is recovering from a quad injury. Las Vegas enters the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
