Las Vegas logged 1.31 inches of rain in October, tying for the second-wettest October on record, according to the National Weather Service. The only wetter October was in 2005, when 1.45 inches fell.

Meteorologist Chris Outler said the bulk of the moisture came from the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel, which dropped about 1.08 inches on parts of the valley on Oct. 11. That system also brought golf ball-sized hail and damaging winds to parts of Arizona.

Additional storms struck the valley later in the month. On Friday, heavy rain and hail caused flash flooding and prompted water rescues, with eastern Henderson recording between one and over 1.5 inches and downtown Las Vegas seeing over an inch by afternoon. Ping-pong ball-sized hail was reported east of downtown and in Henderson.

Halloween weekend brought more rain. A flood advisory was issued for the southeast valley after 0.50 inches fell in 30 minutes just after noon Saturday. The weather service noted it was the first measurable rain on Halloween in Las Vegas since 1987, when a quarter-inch was recorded.
