'New season, new trim' - Haaland reveals buzzcut
Football has seen a variety of iconic male hairstyles over the years, from Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Gareth Bale and Erling Haaland. Yet the Manchester City forward has opted for a fresh look ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.
Haaland announced on social media that he had shaved off his trademark blonde hair, accompanying the post with the caption: "New season, new trim."
The striker hopes the new style will translate into more goals as he looks to open his scoring account when Enzo Maresca's Manchester City face Bournemouth at 14:00 BST on Sunday.
Prior to the cut, Haaland shared a series of images showing his past hairstyles and floated a few unconventional ideas for the new cut.
As the hairdresser began trimming the first strand, Haaland’s initial tension gave way to a smile once he saw the result.
Reactions varied after the 26‑year‑old placed video calls to teammate Jack Grealish, former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher and former City manager Pep Guardiola.
Gallagher remarked, "You look about 17 years old. It's good. Change is good."
Both Grealish and Guardiola expressed their approval, stating they "love" the change.
Grealish added, "You look about 10 years old. That is hilarious. I can't stop looking at the front of your hair. I love it."
Guardiola said, "No way. You're lucky you have hair. I would love to have it. I love it."
Before contacting Ibrahimovic, Haaland recalled the former Sweden international’s advice: "Zlatan told me, never cut your hair, because your strength is in your hair. I'm a bit nervous. I want a buzz cut, like in the military."
Ibrahimovic responded critically, asking, "What did you do? You lost a bet or what? Block me and erase my number."
