Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha breaks the men's half marathon world record in a time of 56 minutes 51 seconds in a World Athletics road race in Buenos Aires.

Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha lowered the men’s half‑marathon world record by 29 seconds, clocking 56:51 in Buenos Aires on Sunday. The 29‑year‑old had previously owned the mark with a 57:30 run in Valencia in October 2024, a time that was overtaken when Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo recorded 57:20 in Lisbon earlier this year. Kejelcha’s performance in Argentina restores him to the top of the event, pending official ratification. In addition to his half‑marathon feat, Kejelcha is an Olympic medalist in the 10,000 metres on the track and currently holds the world record for the men’s 10,000‑metre road race. Earlier this season he became one of the first athletes to break the two‑hour barrier in a record‑eligible marathon, finishing second to Kenya’s Sebastian Sawe in the London Marathon. Sawe won that race in 1:59:30, edging Kejelcha by just 11 seconds.
