Ryan Petty of Sky Pointe’s cross country team was voted the Nevada Preps boys Athlete of the Week, receiving 1,077 votes, or 51.4% of the total, in the poll covering the week of Oct. 5‑10.
Petty earned the honor by tying for first place in the 5‑kilometer Lake Mead Invitational, finishing in 15 minutes, 55 seconds alongside teammate Shane Ramirez in the large‑school varsity division, helping the Eagles claim the team victory.
The poll featured four athletes with standout performances, and voting closed at noon Thursday with results reported on Friday. Other athletes highlighted in the same poll included a senior quarterback, a senior striker and a junior tennis player, each noted for recent achievements.
Petty’s recognition adds to a string of recent successes for Sky Pointe, which has seen strong performances across multiple sports in Nevada’s high‑school competitions.
