Inside Gaming: Strip casino adopts new poker dealing method to deter cheating

The Venetian hotel-casino has become the first major Strip property to adopt slide dealing at its poker tables, joining South Point as the second Las Vegas poker room to move away from traditional pitch dealing. The method keeps cards closer to the felt, making it harder for opponents or hidden cameras to capture players' hole cards. The switch follows several high-profile cheating scandals that have rattled the poker world, and MGM Resorts International is also exploring a potential systemwide adoption of slide dealing across its poker operations, according to PlayUSA.

Poker officials have raised concerns about the costs of retraining dealers and the possibility of slowing games, though prominent pros including Daniel Negreanu have backed the change. The Venetian will host the $5,000 WPT Venetian Las Vegas Fall Championship beginning Nov. 5.

Circa Sports is offering a $250 sign-up match for new Nevada accounts. The promotion is limited to the first 1,000 patrons who are Nevada residents, present a valid state-issued ID, and successfully register the Circa Sports Nevada mobile app. A bettor must deposit $250 and play through it once before Circa adds the matched funds, which must also be played through once before withdrawal. Qualifying wagers must have minimum odds of -250. Registration is available at Circa, The D, Golden Gate, Silverton, Tuscany and Legends Bay.

The Circa Survivor contest field has narrowed to 660 entries from a record starting field of 25,017. Three of the five most popular selections lost Sunday, with the Houston Texans eliminating 303 entries and the New York Jets knocking out 256. The Circa Grandissimo $100,000-entry Survivor contest is down to three entries from a starting field of 77, still competing for the $7.7 million prize.

William Hill sportsbook's injury protection feature has returned more than $1 million to Nevada sports bettors since launching before football season. The feature, also in place at Caesars Sportsbook, voids straight bets and legs of a parlay if a player is ruled out before halftime or gets injured before halftime and doesn't return. "Unfortunately, injuries are part of the game," said Dominic Hammond, senior vice president of sports at Caesars Digital. "Injury protection is part of our commitment to give bettors the most ways to protect their bet."
