A federal grand jury has indicted 57-year-old Henderson resident Jason Randall Utlaut on one count of threatening the president, according to a Thursday announcement from the Department of Justice.
The investigation began Oct. 16 when the FBI National Threat Operations Section received an emergency notification regarding five threatening posts uploaded to a YouTube channel linked to Utlaut. The posts allegedly included threats to kill the president, carry out a mass shooting, and commit other acts of violence.
That same day, the Metropolitan Police Department executed a search warrant at Utlaut's Henderson residence and vehicle, seizing 15 firearms along with magazines and ammunition.
"Threats of political violence and mass murder have no place in our society," said Christopher S. Delzotto, special agent in charge for the FBI Las Vegas office. "Mr. Utlaut allegedly threatened the life of President Trump, promoted a mass shooting, and expressed a willingness to carry out horrific acts of violence."
Henderson Police Chief Reggie Rader emphasized the importance of regional partnerships in stopping violence before it starts. If convicted, Utlaut faces up to five years in prison. An arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 18 before U.S. Magistrate Judge Maximiliano D. Couvillier III.
