Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Javon Hargrave out for season after confirmed Achilles tear

Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Javon Hargrave will miss the remainder of the 2026 NFL season after a torn Achilles tendon was confirmed, the team announced. Hargrave sustained the injury during Sunday’s 31‑7 victory over the Chicago Bears; the diagnosis was confirmed Monday according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter (https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/2109678016473280736?s=20). He went down in the fourth quarter while pursuing Bears quarterback Case Keenum. The tear occurred without contact, and he was carted off the field with less than two minutes left in the game. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur expressed interest in the situation after the contest, and subsequent evaluation confirmed the severity of the injury. In his first five weeks with Green Bay, Hargrave recorded six tackles, two quarterback hits and a pass defensed. The veteran defensive lineman joined the Packers as a free agent in March on a two‑year contract, bringing 11 seasons of NFL experience and two Pro Bowl selections earned during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers. Hargrave’s loss adds to a growing list of defensive setbacks for the Packers. Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper also suffered a season‑ending Achilles tear in Week 4, leaving the team without another important contributor. Young defensive linemen Jonathan Ford and Chris McClellan could see expanded roles as the squad works to compensate for its depleted depth. Hargrave is expected to pursue rehabilitation, with his recovery likely to extend into the offseason. He remains under contract through 2027, providing an opportunity to return to the field next season.
