Golden Knights need OT to beat Kings, win 4th straight game

Mitch Marner scored the game-winning goal in overtime with 2:19 remaining to lift the Vegas Golden Knights to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday. The win marked the Knights' fourth straight game and their second consecutive game requiring extra time, following a shootout win over Toronto on Thursday.

Marner's goal came on a power play after Kings center Scott Laughton was called for tripping. Rookie forward Trevor Connelly scored his first career power-play goal earlier in the game, and goaltender Carter Hart made 26 saves. The Knights wore their original gray sweaters for the final time as part of a weekend-long celebration of their inaugural season, dubbed 'Welcome to Impossible Knight.'

The game remained scoreless through the first period before Connelly opened the scoring at 2:37 of the second period with a backdoor finish off a pass from captain Mark Stone. The Kings tied the game at 6:21 of the second period when Artemi Panarin's wrist shot from the high slot found the net after the Knights took multiple penalties, including three power plays for Los Angeles in the first 25 minutes.

Saturday also marked the nine-year anniversary of the Golden Knights' first home game following the Route 91 Harvest festival shooting. Team president John Penhollow noted a ticketing revamp contributed to the first nonsellout in franchise history. Alumni from the inaugural season, including Gerard Gallant, James Neal, and Ryan Reaves, were honored at City National Arena on Friday.
