Frelick, Pratt lift Brewers to comeback win over Rays and 2-0 World Series lead

The Milwaukee Brewers overcame a four-run deficit for the second time this postseason, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 on Saturday night to take a 2-0 World Series lead. It marked Milwaukee's seventh comeback win of the playoffs and seventh straight victory overall.

Tampa Bay jumped ahead 4-0 in the first inning against rookie Logan Henderson. The Brewers began chipping away with two runs in the bottom half against Drew Rasmussen. David Hamilton made it 4-3 with a run-scoring grounder in the fourth, and Sal Frelick tied the game in the sixth with a solo home run to center field on a nine-pitch at-bat against Ian Seymour. It was Frelick's first home run since July 11, ending a 103-plate-appearance drought.

Cooper Pratt delivered the go-ahead hit in the seventh inning, looping a single into short right field off Kevin Kelly to score Brice Turang. "As long as there's game left, we have a chance. I think we've all bought into that. We're never out of it," Pratt said. Frelick added, "Nine innings to play, and it doesn't really change your offensive plan at all."

The Rays committed an error and two other defensive misplays while also having a runner thrown out at the plate. In the ninth, Aaron Ashby earned his third postseason save, striking out Victor Mesa Jr. and Yandy Diaz — both on checked-swing calls — to close out the win.

Milwaukee became the fifth team to twice overcome four-run deficits in a single postseason and the first since the 2022 Philadelphia Phillies. Of the 57 previous teams to take a 2-0 World Series lead, 46 went on to win the championship. Game 3 is Monday night at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.
