Draymond Green returning to Golden State Warriors on 1-year, $27.7M deal

Draymond Green will remain with the Golden State Warriors after agreeing to a one-year, $27.7 cardinal contract, bringing one of the franchise's most accomplished players back for a 15th season. The agreement restores the same salary Green declined earlier this offseason when he opted out of his contract to give the Warriors additional financial flexibility as they pursued marquee free-agent additions, most notably LeBron James. The Warriors ultimately fell short in their pursuit of James, who instead signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. With the free-agent market largely settled, Golden State moved quickly to finalize Green's return at the original salary figure. The deal lets the team maintain continuity while preserving long-term cap flexibility, as Green, Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler are each set to come off the books after the 2026-27 season unless new agreements are reached. Curry also becomes eligible for a contract extension later this summer. Green, 36, has spent his entire NBA career with the Warriors and remains the defensive anchor and emotional leader of a squad that has captured four NBA championships during his tenure. Although his offensive production has declined with age, his versatility, playmaking and chemistry with Curry continue to make him a key figure in Golden State's system. Before free agency, Green publicly emphasized his willingness to work with the organization on a deal that benefited both sides, reinforcing his tendency to finish his career in the Bay Area. The one‑year structure also gives the Warriors flexibility heading into the 2027 offseason, avoiding a longer‑term financial commitment to one of the league's oldest veteran cores. Golden State is still expected to make other roster moves, including the reported addition of guard De’Anthony Melton, as the front office looks to build a competitive roster around Curry, Green and Butler for the upcoming season.
