‘Domino-like fashion’: Woman trapped in car after utility poles fell on car, lawsuit alleges

Kirstin Rachelle Parker filed a lawsuit in Clark County District Court against NV Energy, alleging negligence after utility poles toppled in a domino-like fashion during a July 2025 dust storm. The suit states that on July 1, 2025, while driving on East Tropicana Avenue near South Pearl Street, utility poles began to fall in a cascading, domino-like fashion behind her. She attempted to speed up to avoid them, but a utility pole and live power cables landed on her car, surrounding it with live cables and preventing her from safely exiting.

According to the lawsuit, Parker remained trapped in her vehicle for seven hours while waiting for the live power cables to be cut. The incident occurred during a dust storm that brought 70 mph winds and downed roughly 70 wooden utility poles across the Las Vegas Valley, with Tropicana Avenue among the hardest-hit areas. A 1.4-mile section of East Tropicana Avenue between South Eastern Avenue and South Sandhill Road was closed as a result, and the Metropolitan Police Department responded to assist with traffic control and emergency services.

The lawsuit alleges that NV Energy failed to design, install, inspect, repair, and/or maintain the utility poles in a reasonable and safe manner. Parker is seeking damages for the incident. No other details about injuries or medical treatment are provided in the source material.
