Bishop Gorman's girls volleyball team captured its fourth straight Class 5A state title Friday, defeating Faith Lutheran 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-20 at UNR's Virginia Street Gym in Reno. The Gaels finished the season 33-7 and became the first Nevada high school girls volleyball program to win four consecutive championships in the state's top classification.
Faith Lutheran, which entered the match 32-8, was seeking its first state title since winning three straight 3A championships from 2013 to 2015. The Crusaders took the opening set before Bishop Gorman rallied to win the next three.
The volleyball final capped a busy week for Southern Nevada teams in Reno. Both Bishop Gorman and Faith Lutheran advanced to the championship match with semifinal victories on Thursday, setting up the rematch of regional rivals for the state crown.
Earlier in the week, Bishop Gorman's girls soccer team reached the 5A title game with a penalty-kick win over Centennial, while Arbor View upset defending champion Faith Lutheran in the other semifinal. The Gaels and Aggies will play for the 5A girls soccer championship Saturday.
