Raiders coach Klint Kubiak praised rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza's NFL debut while acknowledging the offensive line needs improvement after a 45-17 loss to the Patriots.

Are Klint Kubiak, Raiders open to changes along offensive line?

Klint Kubiak said Fernando Mendoza was prepared and played fast in his NFL debut, completing 6 of 8 passes for 48 yards with 6:06 left in the game. Kubiak noted Mendoza got through his progressions quickly and knew his hot issues, calling it a solid start for the rookie.

Kubiak took responsibility for the offensive line's performance, stating the unit is under evaluation after the Patriots pressured the Raiders and bottled up the rushing offense. He said the coaching staff must fix the issues, adding, 'We have to look at everything. We have to improve there.'

Regarding running backs, Kubiak said Mike Washington Jr. needs more opportunities to increase his carries, while praising Dylan Laube for his reliability in protection, third-down situations, and special teams. On cornerbacks, Kubiak said Darien Porter and Hezekiah Masses are competing for the Week 6 starting spot, noting Porter played 50 snaps to Masses' 25 in the Patriots game and is mentally tough after losing his job for a week.
