Ammon Bundy was arrested in Iron County, Utah, after a deputy pulled over his 2020 F-250 for traveling without a license plate on Interstate 15 near Cedar City. The deputy said Bundy produced an expired Idaho driver’s license and stated the truck was not registered, adding that he had owned it for about two years.
When informed the vehicle would be impounded, Bundy refused to exit the truck. Deputies reported he grabbed the steering wheel and resisted removal, requiring physical force to handcuff him and place him in a patrol vehicle. He was booked on charges including failure to obey a peace officer, interfering with a peace officer, driving without registration, and no valid license due to an expired license.
Bundy said he was headed to his ranch when stopped and claimed he had not registered the truck since purchasing it in 2020. He noted prior stops in Idaho and Utah for similar issues but said he maintains vehicle insurance. After being released on bail, he said the tow yard required an impound release form from the DMV, which issued him an invoice for $725.75 to retrieve his truck.
