A’s Langeliers, Leiter Jr. to have season-ending surgeries

Associated Press July 27, 2026 - 7:26 pm WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Athletics All-Star catcher Shea Langeliers and right‑handed pitcher Mark Leiter Jr. are set to undergo season‑ending surgeries on Tuesday. According to a team study released Monday, Langeliers will have a procedure to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, while Leiter will undergo surgery to address a right hip impingement. Before the injury, Langeliers was batting .263 with 23 home runs and 51 RBIs over 93 games. At 28, he became the first Oakland catcher to start an All‑Star Game since Terry Steinbach did so in 1989. Langeliers had also been at the center of trade speculation as the A’s endure another disappointing campaign. Leiter was placed on the injured list earlier this week with a hip impingement, marking the second time this season he has faced the issue. At 35, he has not surrendered a run in 17 of his last 18 outings, posting a 0.50 ERA over that span. For the year, he holds a 0‑1 record with a 4.28 ERA and four saves in 36 relief appearances.
