The identification of human remains discovered in a barrel at Lake Mead in May 2022 has brought relief to Sundae Schor, 77, who says her stepfather, Edward Lelburian Jackson, sexually assaulted her throughout her childhood. "I’ve been waiting to hear this news my whole life, ever since I was hiding in my closet from the guy who would come and find me in the closet and rape me," Schor said upon learning of the identification.

Jackson, born and raised in Arkansas, married Schor’s mother, Mauna Ross, when Schor was 3. The family lived in Long Beach, California, through the 1950s and 1960s. Schor described Jackson as a self-employed painting contractor who sold bomb shelters on the side and earned the nickname "Eldorado Ed" for the Cadillacs he drove. She characterized him as an egotistical bully and heavyweight boxer who associated with "seedy figures" she believed were likely biker gang members.

Las Vegas police have speculated Jackson died in the early 1980s, but Schor believes he was alive as late as 1987, the year of her grandmother’s funeral. She noted the clothing found with the remains — a dirty Idle Time button-down shirt, jeans, Kmart sneakers and a digital Timex watch — was unlike the flashier outfits Jackson preferred, though she acknowledged his style could have changed over the years.

Schor said she is not surprised by Jackson’s violent end. "The guy made me so paranoid and scared, and the fear that I had with him around was so intense," she said. "I thought, maybe something will happen to him someday that’ll make him feel this way."
