Wildfire near Mt. Potosi southwest of Las Vegas grows to 77 acres August 8, 2026 - 4:35 pm A wildfire west of Mount Potosi that has produced plumes of smoke from the southwest Las Vegas Valley has more than doubled in size, according to the Nevada Wildfire Information Dashboard. The blaze, known as the Epan Fire, has grown to 77 acres as of 12:43 p.m. Saturday. The wildfire was first reported around 5:30 p.m. Friday and had grown to 30 acres as of Friday night. The National Weather Service’s Las Vegas bureau attributed the origin of the wildfire to a lightning strike from a thunderstorm. Mount Potosi is about 20 miles southwest of central Las Vegas.
