Raiders special teams coach fires back at ‘The Pat McAfee Show’

Raiders special teams coach Joe DeCamillis addressed criticism he heard on a podcast regarding the fake punt the Las Vegas Raiders allowed against the Kansas City Chiefs last week. He said, 'I saw on some podcast where the guy said, "I’ve never seen anything like that,"' and responded, 'Well, we scored a touchdown against you, dude. So obviously you have.'

DeCamillis took full responsibility for the play, calling it a 'total misplay' and admitting he 'got way too greedy.' He acknowledged the Raiders had used a similar look before, but Kansas City may have picked it up on film and had punter Matt Araiza audible to the fake. He added, 'It’s a great call on their part, and I’ll learn from that situation and not get greedy.'

The special teams unit also struggled later in the game when Dareke Young fumbled on a kickoff return, which the Chiefs converted into a touchdown. DeCamillis blamed the entire return team for allowing too many tacklers into the area, noting it was the second straight week the Raiders fumbled away a kickoff return. He emphasized the need to eliminate such mistakes, especially with New England Patriots special teams ace Brenden Schooler now active and posing a significant challenge.
