Uber has rolled out the United Kingdom’s first robotaxi service, launching a self‑driving minicab fleet in London on Thursday. The rollout begins with 15 autonomous vehicles that have been granted licences to operate within the city. Each vehicle must carry a qualified safety operator who is prepared to assume control if any issue arises during the trip.
Fares for the robotaxi rides are set at the same level as a standard UberX, Uber Electric, or Uber Comfort journey, with upfront pricing displayed in the app before booking.
The BBC’s Zoe Kleinman was the first British journalist to hail a self‑driving Uber in London, providing an early passenger perspective on the new offering.
