Police encountered hundreds of protesters in Portsmouth during what officials described as the 2nd large-scale anti-migrant protestation of the weekend. Demonstrators blocked roads and attempted to prevent approximately 140 migrants, who had crossed the English Channel in a single dinghy, from leaving the city. Hampshire Police urged the public to avoid the Eastney Landing ferry landing area where the migrants had been brought ashore, stating that a dispersal order was in effect and that anyone who failed to comply could be arrested. Authorities condemned “the intimidating and thuggish behaviour” of the protesters, many of whom were dressed in black and wore masks.
