President Donald Trump signaled that his new press secretary, Katie Zacharia, may be on her way out, just a week after appointing her to the position. Speaking to reporters on the White House lawn before departing for a rally in Georgia, Trump said he had spoken with Zacharia and expressed concern over the negative media attention she has received.
Trump said he told Zacharia, 'I think you’re better off being happy,' and added, 'I want her to have a good life. I don’t want her to have a life like she’s led the last three days.' He also said, 'I said, Katie, do you need this? I don’t think you need this,' and noted that she had been 'brutalized by the media.'
The president said he would make a final determination about her future later, possibly after his campaign travel, adding, 'When I get back, we’re gonna talk.' He reiterated that, in his opinion, Zacharia had been treated very unfairly by the press.
