The NFL released its weekly accountability report and identified Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby as the recipient of the league’s biggest fine for Week 5. The penalty stems from a play in the Raiders’ loss to the New England Patriots.
During the first quarter of that game, Crosby was flagged for unnecessary roughness after he head‑butted Patriots lineman Cory Durden, a move that involved the use of his helmet. The league classified the act as a helmet‑to‑helmet violation.
Crosby was assessed a $23,882 fine, the highest of the week and among the most costly fines handed out this season. The sanction marks the seventh fine of his career, bringing his cumulative penalties to $138,878, according to NFLpenalties.com.
As the Raiders prepare to host the Buffalo Bills at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday, Crosby’s fine adds another storyline to the matchup. The team also expects Jalen Nailor to return after sitting out the Patriots game, while new cornerback Taron Johnson will face his former team’s former opponent in the Bills.
