Trevor Connelly’s late goal gives Golden Knights win in Detroit

Rookie forward Trevor Connelly broke a 1-1 tie with 1:42 remaining in the third period, giving the Vegas Golden Knights a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday. The goal marked Connelly's third consecutive game scoring in the final period.

Goaltender Carter Hart turned aside 25 shots as the Knights improved to 11-5-2 on the season and 2-0-1 on their four-game road trip. All three games on the trip have required a game-tying goal in the third period for Vegas.

The game was scoreless through two periods before Detroit defenseman Anton Johansson opened the scoring 2:02 into the third. The Knights answered to force the tie before Connelly's late heroics secured the win.

Forward Victor Olofsson returned to the Vegas lineup Thursday after missing the previous month with an injury. The Knights have also posted back-to-back strong efforts on the penalty kill to start the trip, including a perfect 6-for-6 performance Tuesday in Pittsburgh.
