Three dead and several injured in shooting at food festival near Seattle's Space Needle

Three people were killed and several others injured in a shooting at a food festival near Seattle's Space Needle on Sunday, according to city officials. Mayor Katie Wilson said one suspect was taken into custody following the incident at the Seattle Centre, which had been hosting the yearly Bite of Seattle food festival when the shots were fired at approximately 18:00 local time. A second suspect fled the scene and remains at large, acting chief of Seattle Police Tyrone Davis said, adding that investigators believe the suspects were shooting at each other. Two deaths were confirmed at the scene, with a third victim later dying in hospital. Those injured include a two‑year‑old boy; four of the wounded were taken to area hospitals in stable condition, while a fifth declined treatment, the Seattle Police Department reported. Videos shared online showed people taking shelter inside the iconic Space Needle, with others seen crouched on the ground behind pillars and shelves of merchandise in the building’s lobby during the gunfire. The Seattle Police Department said an investigation remains ongoing and urged the public to avoid the area. In a statement, Mayor Wilson said she wanted to "thank the Seattle constabulary officers who responded to the country and took a fishy into custody." She had initially announced that two suspects had been taken into custody before updating her remarks later on Sunday evening.
