Teofimo Lopez captured the WBA welterweight title Saturday at T-Mobile Arena winning a majority decision over Las Vegas native and reigning champion Rolando Romero.

Teofimo Lopez secured a three‑division championship Saturday night, outpointing Rolando Romero to claim the WBA welterweight title at T‑Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The judges scored the bout 116‑112, 115‑113 and 114‑114 in Lopez’s favor. Entering the fight as a unified lightweight titlist and the WBO junior lightweight champion, Lopez was making his debut at 147 pounds. Romero began aggressively, landing a looping hook that caught Lopez’s eye in the fifth round and following with a flurry of punches. Lopez, however, dictated the tempo with steady footwork and a sharp jab, mixing in timely body shots to wear down his opponent. Romero entered the contest with a record of 17‑3, including 14 knockouts, while Lopez carried a 23‑2 mark with 13 knockouts. By the later rounds, Lopez’s higher output and superior ring generalship earned him the majority decision. The result makes Lopez a champion in three weight classes.
