Springs throws 7 shutout innings, Muncy homers as A’s beat Mariners 6-2

SEATTLE — Jeffrey Springs tossed seven scoreless innings, Max Muncy homered for the second consecutive game and the Athletics defeated the Seattle Mariners 6-2 on Saturday night. Lawrence Butler contributed a two‑run homer, while Henry Bolte and Donovan Walton each recorded an RBI hit. Geoff Hartlieb and Elvis Alvarado combined to work the final two frames. The victory gave Oakland a 57‑86 record and marked the team’s first four‑game winning streak since June 13. Seattle fell to 66‑77, dropping a season‑worst 11 games below .500 and losing its third straight meeting with Oakland. Entering the contest with a 6.37 ERA, the 33‑year‑old right‑hander allowed no runs on just two hits over seven innings, striking out six and walking two while throwing only 81 pitches. It represented Springs’ first win since April 14. Muncy launched his ninth home run of the season — a 428‑foot solo shot to left field off George Kirby (9‑11). He later added an RBI single in the fourth inning to push the lead to 2‑0. Kirby labored through 6 ⅔ innings, yielding four runs on seven hits. Butler connected for his 13th homer of the campaign, driving the ball to left field off Michael Rucker in the eighth inning. The Athletics have announced plans to relocate to Las Vegas beginning in the 2028 season, when they will open a new ballpark on the Strip. Looking ahead, Oakland left‑hander Gage Jump (6‑9, 5.15) is slated to meet right‑hander Bryan Woo (10‑9, 4.25) in the series finale on Sunday.
